The interview

What was your biggest breakthrough since joining Thrive Academy?

My biggest breakthrough with Thrive came in the month of January when I had a $26,000 month. From being a public school teacher and making three to 4,000 a month, it really felt so eye-opening that people needed my services and that I was really there to help people.

What was your business like before you discovered the Client Attraction Summit?

I'd been running my business for about a year, and some months were successful, some months were not successful. It really felt like random almost, and it didn't feel like I had that great of systems. Before joining Thrive, it really felt like there was no end to the work. It was constantly being online, searching for clients, working on posts, and working on resources.

What did you discover when you attended the summit?

I really connected with the people, and I realized that Jessie and Sharla had some really fantastic advice and systems and tools, and really had so much more than what I was just going for at the summit. I was really excited by all the resources and all the teamwork and camaraderie and possibilities that Thrive afforded.

How has your approach to sales and client communication changed?

The biggest difference now is more clarity in the whole process, from finding clients to communicating and having consultation calls. I bring my heart to the process and nothing feels salesy. I love that now I'm really excited to help clients move towards a decision, even if the decision is no, because I've helped them make a choice.

How did you change your pricing and what was the result?

I started to understand that I help teens find their dream colleges and have helped students make almost $400,000 in scholarships. I realized that by not charging enough, families didn't really believe what I was offering. I had a mind shift and increased my prices to $10,000 for my services. Just the other day, I had a student get a $70,000 a year scholarship, so the investment really aligns with my mission.

What do you value most about the Thrive community?

The thing that I've come to love the most about Thrive is the community. Right now I'm in a challenge group with some ladies that I just adore. We message each other probably at least five days a week, supporting each other in a real, viable, authentic way, and that feels really powerful.

Frequently asked

Is Thrive Academy a 'magic pill' for business success?

According to Emily Wassell, Thrive is not a magic pill but a journey of re-understanding every aspect of your business. Success requires being willing to show up, be honest with yourself, and put in the work required to use their extensive resources.

Will I have to use 'salesy' tactics to get clients?

Emily Wassell found that the biggest difference after the Client Attraction Summit was bringing her heart to the process so it didn't feel 'salesy.' She learned to focus on helping clients make a choice, even if that choice is a 'no,' which removed the pressure from consultation calls.

Is it scary to increase coaching prices to $10,000?

Emily admitted she was 'really frightened' and nervous the first time she asked for $10,000. However, she realized that by not charging enough, families didn't believe in the value of her offering; increasing her prices helped her be taken seriously.

My biggest breakthrough with Thrive came in the month of January when I had a $26,000 month. From being a public school teacher and making three to 4,000 a month, it really felt so eye-opening that people needed my services and that I was really there to help people. When I discovered the Client Attraction Summit, I'd been running my business for about a year, and some months were successful, some months were not successful. It really felt like random almost, and it didn't feel like I had that great of systems. What happened at that summit was I really connected with the people, and I realized that Jessie and Sharla had some really fantastic advice and systems and tools, and really had so much more than what I was just going for at the summit. So I was really excited by all the resources and all the teamwork and camaraderie and possibilities that Thrive afforded. The biggest difference now since having gone to the Client Attraction Summit is more clarity in the whole process, right? From finding clients, communicating with clients, having those consultation calls, really bringing my heart to the process and not having anything feel salesy. I love that now I'm really excited to help clients, whether it's a yes or a no, and helping them move towards a decision. Sometimes the decision is no, and that's fantastic because I've helped them to make a choice. So coming to that realization that when I'm approaching families and asking if they need support and guidance, I'm really there to help them in any way that I can. The breakthrough came when I really started to look at all the clients I'd worked with, and I started to understand that there are clients that I've helped to make almost $400,000 in scholarships. I help teens find their dream colleges, and I help with the whole process, really understanding my own value, and that by not charging enough, I think families didn't really believe what I was offering. So there was this mind shift that happened when I realized that I needed to increase my prices to be taken seriously. That was really frightening. I was really nervous the first time I asked for those numbers. Even just saying on a call that, "Yes, I charge $10,000 for my services," felt scary. Now that I see students... Just the other day I had a student get a $70,000 a year scholarship. So for a family to invest in me and then never have to pay anything else for college really aligned with my mission and my purpose, and it's really a win-win. The students are helping to support me and the families are supporting me, and then I in turn am there to support those families for really transformational work to radically change their futures. Before joining Thrive, it really felt like there was no end to the work. It was constantly being online, searching for clients, working on posts, working on resources. Since joining Thrive, I've really been very intentional with my own self-care. That means spending more time with my family, spending more time on my health, investing in myself, and the idea that every dollar invested in myself comes back to me tenfold. I feel like I'm happier and my life is a lot easier, and particularly my family life. I think my family is in a better place than we've ever been, and all of us are really happy. When I work, it's not at the expense of my kids. I'm able to have vacations with my kids and be with my kids and be fully present with my kids and trust that when it's time for work, it's time for work, but the rest of the time is really mine, and giving myself permission to make space in the day for myself. Just like any program, it's not for everyone. To really succeed in Thrive, you have to be willing to do the work and to show up and to be honest with yourself and honest with what you do. For people willing to really step up and do the work, and there is a lot to Thrive. There are so many resources there that it's not like taking a magic pill. It is truly this journey that you go on of re-understanding and reexamining every aspect of your business and yourself. The thing that I've come to love the most about Thrive is the community. Right now I'm in a challenge group with some ladies that I just adore. We message each other probably at least five days a week, supporting each other in a real, viable, authentic way, and that feels really powerful.
