The interview

What brought you to seek help with your Medicare options?

My name is Mark and I live in New York. I was looking for Medicare, and Paul was the second person or the second one I tried. I said, you know, Paul, I'm having another issue. You sound like you know what's going on here.

What specific problem were you facing with your medical bills?

The issue I'd been having was a scan. Back in 2024, the charge for the scan was about $300. And then in 2025, when I got the bill for the second scan, it was $1,700. I had been fighting with the facility for almost two years, telling them that I was not going to pay $1,700 because this was wrong.

How did Paul respond when you mentioned the billing discrepancy?

Paul said, well, he said, no, that's not right and they should do something. Well first Paul said send me the information and I'll see, I'll take a look at it. So I sent him all the bills and the Medicare, and I sent him what I had done.

What action did the agency take to help resolve the $1,700 bill?

He said, I'll send you a letter that you can use, sort of like a legal letter, but not really from a lawyer. And he said, you can use this. And this letter just says, you want this looked at by the adjustment department or something like that.

What was your impression of the service you received as a non-client?

This whole thing just came out of a question I had asked Paul. I wasn't a client. Hadn't he worked with me before? He didn't know me. I asked him if I could pay him for, you know, and he said, no, no, don't, it's okay. Don't worry about it. He's just such an incredible person in my opinion.

Would you recommend The Modern Medicare Agency to others?

I can't imagine anybody else actually taking the time and the trouble to try to help and actually follow through and try to do something and spend time on my issues without charging me for it. I would recommend him to anybody to take care of them, because he took care of me. He treats me like a friend.

Frequently asked

Can a Medicare broker help with billing errors from medical facilities?

Does The Modern Medicare Agency charge for initial Medicare advice?

According to Mark, Paul refused payment for his help with a billing issue, even though Mark was not yet a client. Mark noted that Paul was willing to spend time on his issues without charging him, treating him like a friend.

How do I know if my Medicare scan charge is incorrect?

Mark Lubart realized his bill was wrong when a scan that cost $300 in 2024 jumped to $1,700 in 2025. Paul confirmed that Medicare is supposed to charge the same amount for the same service and helped Mark seek a formal adjustment.
