The interview

How did the initial interaction with Ben Miller go?

I was intentionally quite abrupt in the beginning and I dumped a lot of not so organized stuff on Ben just to see how he took it. He was completely cool, unfazed, and structured yet still remaining positive all the time. He is a very agile person.

What was the state of your business before working with Miller Growth?

We have a typical engineering business with a lot of technical competence and a little bit of room to improve in our proactive outreach towards clients.

Why did you choose Ben Miller over other consulting options?

I was looking at three different options and Ben was most pragmatic. He had the necessary competence in an industry known for savvy sales systems and productivity, a good understanding of modern technology, and we had a nice chemistry.

What specific changes have occurred in the sales team's behavior?

The team does more proactive outreach and as a result, we generate more opportunities. There is better use of AI as well; we had a bunch of AI tools that not many people were using, and now more people are using them than not.

How has Miller Growth helped with accountability and implementation?

There were a few items we mentioned in meetings that we needed to implement, but the team wasn't really doing it. Now they are implementing it because Ben is helping us to create the cadence and focus every single month, two times a month.

What does the ongoing training structure look like?

We have a training each Friday for each of the sales teams, and then we've got a sales leadership training as well. We preplan the content for a quarter ahead of time so it is proactive rather than reactive.

Frequently asked

Is Ben Miller disciplined enough to manage multiple consulting clients?

Otso Lahtinen noted that a major concern was whether a consultant would oversell their time. He found that Ben was disciplined enough to maintain a strict schedule, ensuring he had dedicated time for each client.

How does Miller Growth handle unorganized or technical business data?

Otso intentionally provided unorganized information at the start to test Ben's reaction. He described Ben as 'unfazed,' structured, and able to remain positive while organizing the chaos into a pragmatic plan.

What is required from the client to make a Miller Growth engagement successful?

Otso emphasizes that you 'get all what you put in.' He believes clients must be willing to put in the hours to enable the consultant to perform well since they are technically outside the organization.

Otto Lahtinen from Dubai. We have a typical engineering business with a lot of technical competence and little bit room to improve in our proactive outreach towards clients. Before we worked with Ben, I was looking at three different options and Ben was most pragmatic. He had the necessary competence and perhaps in an industry that is perhaps known for more savvy sales systems and productivity as a whole than our industry. not that anything wrong with our industry, but that was one of the things. And then he had good understanding of the, it a modern technology that was important. And we had a nice chemistry as well. and it's important also that he was able to explain because these types of firms where you have a few quality consultants, there's very easily at risk that they oversell their time. In Ben's case, he was able to convince me he's disciplined enough to maintain his schedule so that he has time for each of his clients. That was very important. So it was just like very, very smooth and collaborative as well. That way. the team does more proactive outreach. And as a result, we generate more opportunities. Better use of AI as well. We had a bunch of AI tools that not many people were using. No more people are using them than not. So it's kind of like it's not reactive, it's proactive. Working with any consultant there is this element of of course the consultants skills and the consultants motivation behind your company. Very, very important. But also if you are not willing as a client to put in hours and time to help and enable the consultant to perform well, then that's unlikely going to happen because they are outside of your organization. So there is this element of consulting that you get all what you put in. Well, it feels like there's somebody in your corner who you can rely on when it comes to sales training. That feels good.
