The interview
What is the core transformation Mass Next Gen experienced with Neal Conlon?
We went from just finding a solution for a problem to a scale engine that is looking beyond just small impact to a really big impact globally. Neal brought in the thinking mindset that I needed. As a founder, you always need those advisors who push you and press you in areas that you never thought about.
How did Neal challenge your initial business strategy?
I was thinking B2B, I was thinking schools, I was thinking small. And he really pushed me to think, you need to go bigger with how you're going to drive this change. Everything from partnerships to revenue streams that are different.
Can you describe your company and its mission?
My name is Avni Trivedi, I'm the CEO and founder of Mass Next Gen. Mass Next Gen is a gamified learning platform where we are empowering an AI-ready generation with the skills they need to be resilient and truly have digital safety in a way that's never seen before.
What stage was the business in when you started working with Press Forward?
Before finding Neal, we had just started on the conceptual work—it was a concept not really built into the product. We were early enough to question everything that we're doing, but not early enough to not have market validation that this is the right way to go.
How did you first connect with Neal Conlon?
Neal was actually introduced to me through my chief information security officer. I met him in his early days in Austin. He's very methodical about how he actually approaches networking. We realized there was synergy and met at a coffee shop.
What makes Neal's approach different from other advisors?
What Neal does better than anybody is that he has an experience that nobody else has had. From being a veteran to a mailroom boy in a hedge fund to driving deals, it's that story and his experience that really differentiate his thinking power. He just helped me break the norm.
How involved is Neal in your day-to-day operations and major events?
We bring Neal here all the time to talk about everything from raising to revenue streams to revenue conversations. He is an extension of the team; for example, we're doing South by Southwest here and he's going to be my spokesperson.
Frequently asked
Is Neal Conlon just another cybersecurity advisor?
Initially, Avni Trivedi wondered if he was just offering another social security awareness program. However, she found that his personal experience with online safety and his unique background—from the Marine Corps to hedge fund deal-making—differentiated his thinking power from standard advisors.
How does Press Forward help with market positioning?
Neal Conlon pushed Mass Next Gen to move beyond 'thinking small' with schools and local B2B. He helped Avni Trivedi reframe the company as a foundational AI readiness infrastructure, expanding their reach to global partnerships and diverse revenue streams.
What is it like working with Neal Conlon as a founder?
Avni Trivedi describes the relationship as a true team collaboration where Neal acts as an extension of the team. He serves as a sounding board who tests the founder, pushing them to be uncomfortable with the 'next level' of growth.
