The interview

What changes have you noticed since joining Alloy Personal Training?

Since joining Alloy, my sleep is better. My days are a lot filled and it's not that there is a downtime in the afternoon or anything. I am running through the day pretty much energetic. I do feel physically—just the other day I was showing off to my wife the muscles I've gained. I'm feeling excited.

What impressed you most about the training approach?

What impressed me the most was they met me and each person at that person's individual level. So even though it is group, each one was measured for himself or herself. I wasn't being measured with somebody else; I was being measured with my own. The encouragement and the understanding that you can do better was great.

What was your fitness level and motivation before finding Alloy?

Before I found Alloy Personal Training, I was not feeling very energetic. During the day I was wanting to spend some time resting. I knew physical fitness was something I was lacking. Also, the medical test—the blood report that I got—showed that I need to work on my physical fitness so much more. Those were the main drivers.

What was your experience with other gyms in the past?

I have been doing, on and off, fitness training or gym at different places. I would start and stop. I never really felt connected to any of the gyms. So then I said, 'OK, I'll just do it on my own at home.' When I started Alloy, it was definitely with a lot of reservations and I said maybe I'll last a month or so.

How would you describe the environment at Alloy?

In a word, Alloy felt like being home. I don't know how they build that environment and sense of training. Even though it's a group, it felt like I'm doing individual training, and it's not like a pressure training. It is the best I can achieve for myself and then how I can better it.

What is the number one benefit you have experienced?

The #1 benefit I have experienced joining Alloy is I am motivated to do physical training with them. I have always in the past started and quit. Here, I look forward to days where I'm going there, which has resulted in me being physically better, me being medically better, and me being much healthier.

How does the lack of mirrors affect your workout experience?

Not having mirrors and not having to see and be seen and reflection and all of that, I think that actually is a pretty good thing. Every other gym that I've been to it's been mirrored, right? So I'm seeing somebody behind me lift like 150 pounds or I'm seeing other people on the side and they are also seeing me. I think the mirrors kind of put you on edge.

What is the community like at the Cedar Park location?

The sense of community at Alloy, I think most people feel they're part of the same family. The people who work out with me, they encourage me, I encourage them. It's a sense of wanting to feel good and having somebody else be good for themselves and not as competitive, not as judgmental.

Frequently asked

Will I feel intimidated by other people in a group fitness setting?

Pulin Nagalia noted that Alloy creates a non-judgmental environment by removing mirrors and focusing on individual progress rather than competition. He felt that even in a group, he was measured against his own goals rather than being compared to others.

Can I stick with a fitness program if I have a history of quitting gyms?

Pulin admitted he had a pattern of starting and stopping at other gyms, often lasting only a month. At Alloy, he found a sense of community and personalized attention that made him look forward to returning, describing it as 'feeling like home.'

Is personal training worth the investment for health reasons?

After receiving a blood report indicating he needed to work on his fitness, Pulin decided that investing in himself was the best possible use of money. He found that the improvements in his physical and mental fitness were worth the cost.
