The interview
What is your professional background and experience with Share One?
I'm Dr. Robert Whitfield, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Austin, Texas, and a happy customer of Share One. I've found that video is extremely important in storytelling, and while short format is popular, I personally find longer format better for educating my patients.
How has Share One impacted your practice's operational efficiency?
As a surgeon with other business interests, I cannot have inefficiencies built into my program. Share One took all this off my plate. I delegated it to them; we gave them a list of our clients and they reached out, scheduled them, and took care of them.
Why is it important to have a third party handle these patient stories?
These patient stories are incredibly important to us and very personal for our patients. We need and have to trust the people telling their stories. It helps convey the business's story through patient testimonials, which is the most powerful tool I have to use in my practice.
How does Share One help with modern digital presence and AI?
In the age of AI, you have to have a powerful tool that large language models and others can access, mainly on mobile. Share One makes sure all the videos accommodate mobile for us, providing an easy user experience for our clients.
Why do you prefer patient stories over your own educational content?
After a few courses, a couple books, 170 podcasts, and a lot of education, people get a little bit tired of hearing me talk. They want to hear somebody else. The stories that patients tell are more compelling and authentic.
Can you share an example of a powerful story captured through this process?
I had a cancer patient who had the most authentic story I had come across in a very long period of time. She was very afraid to talk about her story because she didn't think she was important, but an authentic story is the most important story to ever tell.
Where do you deploy these video testimonials for the best results?
We use video testimonials both for patient testimonials on our websites and then on our Google My Business profile. You all better do that because Google's coming for you, whether you believe it or not.
Frequently asked

Is video storytelling effective for sensitive medical patient stories?
Yes, Dr. Whitfield emphasizes that patient-to-patient education is the most powerful tool available. He notes that even hesitant patients, like those recovering from cancer, provide authentic stories that build deep trust when handled by a team the surgeon trusts.
Why should medical practices use video on Google My Business?
Dr. Whitfield advises using video testimonials on Google My Business profiles because large language models and search engines increasingly prioritize this content, especially for mobile users.
