The interview

What was your primary goal when enrolling in the program?

I had graduated from the NTA, and I just wanted to build on those skills. I just really wanted to make sure I had a very clear process in order how to address different systems.

What did you actually gain from the experience compared to your expectations?

I thought I was going to get education in functional nutrition, which I did get, but what I actually got is an overwhelming confidence to take on way more different client scenarios than I ever would have thought possible.

How would you describe the quality and background of the instructors?

They're not just teachers, they're actually people that have had experience with hundreds of clients, and their systems are constantly being upgraded, but also being taught in a way that I can trust and apply in a systematic fashion.

How has the training changed your clinical decision-making process?

Working on using a systems-thinking approach where you're not just looking at their specific symptom, but you're going deeper, and you've got all this data to make these decisions with. It's kind of like peeling back the layers of an onion.

How do you apply the hormone and gut health training in your practice?

The way that they broke down how to understand hormones, using the foundational approach, helped my practice unlock another layer. Sometimes people come in for hormones, and then it actually leads to doing some really deep gut work as well. It allows you to be really flexible and understand what to prioritize.

Frequently asked

How does the Institute of Restorative Health help with complex hormone cases?

Anthony explains that the program breaks down hormones as a concept using a foundational approach. This allows practitioners to understand the link between different systems, such as how gastrointestinal issues often require deep gut work before or alongside hormone support.

Is the curriculum at Institute of Restorative Health based on real-world experience?

Yes, Anthony notes that the instructors are not just teachers but practitioners who have worked with hundreds of clients. Their systems are constantly upgraded and taught in a way that is trustworthy and applicable in a systematic fashion.

What is the benefit of a systems-thinking approach in functional nutrition?

According to Anthony, it allows a practitioner to look beyond specific symptoms and go deeper using data. This 'peeling back the layers' helps identify how dietary patterns or gut health contribute to systemic inflammation.

Anthony (00:00) I thought I was going to get education in functional nutrition, which I did get, but what I actually got is an overwhelming confidence to take on way more different client scenarios than I ever would have thought possible. My name's Anthony and I'm from Australia, Melbourne, and I'm a functional nutritionist, strength and conditioning coach, and I work out of a health and wellness center called Fifth Element Wellness. I had graduated from the NTA, and I just wanted to build on those skills. I just really wanted to make sure I had a very clear process in order how to address different systems. They're not just teachers, they're actually people that have had experience with hundreds of clients, and their systems are constantly being upgraded, but also being taught in a way that I can trust and apply in a systematic fashion. Working on using a systems-thinking approach where you're not just looking at their specific symptom, but you're going deeper, and you've got all this data to make these decisions with. I find it's kind of like peeling back, the layers of an onion. A lot of the times people come in to see me with gastrointestinal issues. And a lot of that is actually still contributing to whether that's their gut health and how that's contributing to inflammation in their body or even in their dietary patterns, and it's just allowed me to see the link and, you know, see that continuum of, you know, this process of The way that they broke down how to understand hormones, using like the, you know, the foundational approach, and just breaking it down in ways where you can really grasp hormones as a concept. It's helped my practice to just unlock another layer. Once, you know, we're getting on top of their gastrointestinal issues or concerns that they have. Sometimes some people come in to see me for hormones, and then it actually leads to doing some really deep gut work as well. It allows you to be really flexible, and it allows you to really understand what's going on for your client, and what to prioritize. And also makes me feel really confident that now I can offer that in my practice.
