The interview

Why did you decide to join the Flipping 50 retreat?

I joined the Flipping 50 retreat because I just wanted to do something for myself that was out of the ordinary and, because I'm an introvert, it was very much out of my comfort zone to do that. I wanted to challenge myself, and I came to the conclusion that all these ladies that were going were over 50, love exercise, and resonate with Debra.

Did you have any hesitations before signing up?

If there was anything that made me hesitate to sign up for the retreat was probably the cost to start with. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought, no, this is something that I'm going to do for myself. As a fitness professional, I was also very hesitant to even sign up and do the half day event with Debra just because I had a lot of self doubt.

What is your professional background and how did it influence your experience?

My background is in exercise science and exercise physiology. So I've always been involved with exercise, but I've always over-exercised. And so it caught up with me. I found Debra and joined the Flipping 50 Cafe membership. I'm also an integrative health coach, so it just helped just reinforce how it all works together.

What specific insights did you gain from the Menopause Fitness Specialist course?

I learned that adrenal dysfunction is a game changer for exercise and I learned a lot about the nutrition aspect, protein, and how that is so vital in maintaining muscle as we age. It helped to retrain my thinking that cardio all the time is really not necessary. Strength training is priority and interval training—I'd never done that before and I love it.

How did the course impact your confidence in working with clients?

The Menopause Fitness Specialist course improved my confidence in working with clients. It actually gave me the confidence—just all the different areas that are covered—to actually be able to set up a program and work with clients without hesitation.

What was it like working with Debra on your business plan?

Working with Debra on my business plan was eye opening. First of all, she's a wealth of knowledge. And it is a lot of information, but she breaks it down into bite sized chunks that are understandable. Everything about Debra just kind of changes your life because she makes you think about things in a different way.
